STAND UP, SALUTE THE FLAG!

STAND UP, SALUTE THE FLAG!
by Rev. Curtis Dean

Hundreds of thousands bled and died that our nation might be free,[1]
And despots we have conquered to give people liberty.
Don’t tell me that our flag is a “symbol of oppression”,
For repeatedly we’ve given to folk the freedom of expression!

In Belgium, for example, they would often say to me,
“Please thank your people for us ‘cause America set us free!”
In France, the Freedom Fighters tell how they joined with the Yanks,
And time and time again they’d say, “Please tell your people thanks!”

Just remember that most people cannot “sing a happy song”,
If liberty and freedom are disappearing and almost gone!
So stand up, salute the flag, when it comes passing by,
Please don’t use some lame excuse; our flag does proudly fly!

This poem may be freely used as long as my name is listed as the author.
The poem is meant for any and all Americans,
but especially for one certain important official. You guess who!
